And if you use the ear buds in all but the most controlled situation, you’re likely to end up with the ear bud wire in the shot – not really easy, even if it worked.

The ear buds also come with a volume control which can be used as a shutter (provided you have procamera configured to use the volume control as a shutter). Works quite nicely.

What that says is, “Turn down the sound” which has no effect whatsoever on the shutter sound. This only means that if someone phones you, you won’t be able to hear it.

Then it says, “Press your finger over the speakers at the bottom”, which works, but is not very convenient if you’re trying to capture infant wild boar munching on rice in a paddy in the dark of night.

There are all sorts of pointless instructions floating around for getting around this intrusive feature, and none of them work apart from the finger thing. The only solution is for responsible people to protest, and for vendors to take a stand against unreasonable restrictions.
